I wonder if we could have ever met :-)
All the best from Poland!
Tomasz!PvBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15605086053851560238noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-596691019080999720.post-41162568873940401732011-02-24T19:56:30.904+00:002011-02-24T19:56:30.904+00:00People need to feel empowered to be able to fight ...People need to feel empowered to be able to fight for/against something. Needn't necessarily be through weapons, but as is the case in the Middle East at the moment, through the need for liberation.

It is basic human nature. Eventually, we will fight back. That is something these regimes missed, or perhaps hoped to keep pushing back indefinitely.

But the one problem I see with all this is the role of the West/UN. Or if we stop being politically correct, the role of US and its allies. Yes, intervention isn't the smartest idea, but does keeping silent on an issue of such magnitude for almost a week serve any purpose? What's happening in Libya and the rest of the ME cannot be stopped or undone. Irrevocable. Sure, these governments will now be compelled to think of how to protect their interests (oil, money, selfish gains really) and seem supportive too. My advice, rally behind the movement - words of support and encouragement to the people, words of subdued force to the adamant (and crazy?!?) leader/s. This will help the process proceed in a smoother manner, not to mention quicker, that will ultimately only help. And hey, it'll earn them some goodwill too.

But yes, things will get worse before they get better. The storm before the calm. The calm is nigh.

I do believe in the power of the people. What is done with this power is an entirely different matter.Preehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10463166192330320618noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-596691019080999720.post-63589718511866373782011-02-23T18:48:35.823+00:002011-02-23T18:48:35.823+00:00Yousef: Thank you for visiting and your comments a...Yousef: Thank you for visiting and your comments are very welcome.

That's the thing with armchair politics - they're easy to do. Diplomacy at this level is difficult and the factors involved are complex. Certainly beyond emotional or individual moral indignation. David Cameron has two options - cling to the old realities or move to acknowledge the new ones. There'd be scathing criticism whatever he chooses to do. I'm glad he has chosen the latter. Cynical as people may be, these are fast changing and very volatile times - I believe we should stand firmly behind the Prime Minister.

The business of international relations has to continue regardless of who controls Egypt.

That Gaddafi's stance is untenable, is a given. Nothing now can change that. Should he cling on, the world has changed irrevocably. I don't see our leadership's position changing in any way.Khybermanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13663746240596300374noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-596691019080999720.post-69907292540374979412011-02-23T16:36:22.840+00:002011-02-23T16:36:22.840+00:00The west don't know what to do.
